My Story

Hi, my name is Leigh-Ann Roden and I started painting ceramics in 1992 and discovered then and there, I had found my passion, I was hooked!!  Within 2 months I bought a kiln and the rest, as they say is history.  I started Kew Ceramics in 1994 teaching ceramic painting classes in the front room of my house.  It wasn’t long before I outgrew the house and moved everything up the road to the Kew Ceramics Studio in Denmark St, where I shared my passion with others, taught eager students, painted lots and lots of plates and collected many friends for 20 wonderful years.

In 2015, after being a “very inner-city girl” all my life, we decided to up stumps and move to the country to the very picturesque town of Mirboo North in South Gippsland on 50 acres.   "We" consists of my husband Peter, two rescue dogs Millie and Hugo, chickens, cows, calves and a wonderful menagerie of passing wildlife of Koalas, Echnidas, Wallabies, Eagles and Wombats to name a few.

I now paint and create, looking at the beautiful view of my cows, calves, green paddocks, rolling hills and Mt Baw Baw in the distance.  A very nice change to my Denmark St view that consisted of cars and concrete.

Every one of my ceramics pieces are 100% made by me (unless I get busy and Peter helps me).  Making the plates, designing and painting them and finally finishing off with glazing and firing.  As each plate is individually made and hand painted, there may be a little variation in each piece, so you are guaranteed a completely special and memorable gift that will be treasured for years to come.

As a small business, I strongly believe in my brand and continuing to build relationships with the people who buy, use and love my product is very important.

I look forward to painting something special for you.

Cheers for now,
Leigh-Ann
